Want to explore more of the theory and design of online learning? We've broken down a few learning frameworks and theories here that can deepen your understanding of the basics of online course design. 

  1. TEACH Framework. What core values do Stanford instructors aim to center? The TEACH framework is designed by and for the Stanford community to help instructors put university values at the core of their course design. 
  2. Teacher-Centered vs. Student-Centered Course Design. Many instructors design courses thinking about what they want students to know, considering how their understanding of the course content shapes what gets covered in the class. A student-centered design asks, "What will students be able to do at the end of the course?" Consider the ramifications of this mindset shift for online course design.
  3. ADDIE: An Online Course Design Model. Many learning designers rely on a particular model, called ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implement, and Evaluate), to construct a course. Consider how these steps might help you shape your online course.
  4. Understanding the TPACK Framework: What might students need to know to adopt new technology for their learning? The TPACK framework asserts that Content Knowledge (CK), Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), and Technological Knowledge (TK) are all essential intertwining knowledge areas that student learners need to access to adopt successful technologically-informed learning.
