Manually enable Harmonize from the settings and navigation menus in your Canvas course.
Harmonize features
Harmonize is a discussion tool that allows students to communicate, interact, and engage more easily with one another. Harmonize supports richer discussion and collaboration by allowing you and your students to upload multiple files directly within posts and easily record audio and video comments.
Harmonize enables students to annotate images, videos, and PDF files. Harmonize annotation assignments can be assigned to the entire course, specific sections or groups, or privately between the teaching team and students. Harmonize also supports grade passback to Canvas. For more information on the three annotation options within a page, please refer to Creating image, video, and PDF annotations.
Other similar discussion tools include Canvas Discussions, Ed Discussion, and Piazza.
Artificial intelligence features
Harmonize Brainstorm helps with creating Harmonize discussion prompts. For more information, please read the Harmonize Brainstorm guide. AI Brainstorming is available and enabled by default.
Access Harmonize
All Stanford users can access Harmonize via the Canvas LMS using their SUNet credentials.
- Sign in to Canvas and select your course.
- Go to Settings > Navigations tab
- Drag and drop the Harmonize tool to the top of the list
- Click Save at the bottom of the page
- Click Harmonize in the Canvas course navigation menu
Stanford users can explore an example of Harmonize within this Harmonize Canvas course. First, self-enroll in the course using your SUNet credentials. Then, click Harmonize in the course navigation bar on the left. Click Assignments in the course navigation bar on the left for examples of how Harmonize can be integrated into course assignments. The Chrome web browser is recommended for Harmonize.
