TEACH Conference 2023 Call for Proposals

All Stanford community members are invited to submit proposals to share their work at the TEACH Conference on May 5, 2023, held in person on campus at Paul Brest Hall.

Proposals are due by 5:00 PM on April 3rd, 2023.

Themes

The conference will explore IDEAL education and how to facilitate engagement, well-being, and belonging among teachers and learners at Stanford and beyond. Applicants should focus on one or more of the following aspects of teaching and learning.

  • Engagement: How can we captivate learners with engaging and motivational educational experiences? How can we help students engage deeply in learning and sustain vibrant educational relationships?
  • Well-being: How can we address the challenges of mental health, stress, social disruptions, and so on? How can we support individual and communal flourishing among learners and teachers?
  • Belonging: How can we invite learners and teachers to bring their whole selves to class? How can we foster meaningful connections to the values, communities, and issues that are meaningful to us?

Who you are

We welcome all applicants involved in teaching and learning at Stanford. Faculty, course instructors, teaching assistants, staff, and student researchers, are invited to apply. Community members from all Stanford schools and units, including online learning, professional programs, and so on are welcome.

Session formats

Prospective facilitators may propose sessions of the following types:

  • Lightning Talks. Do you have a compelling story to tell, a challenge you are working on, emerging research discoveries, or new resources you've developed? Share a recent success, research project, resource, or thought-provoking idea in these short ten-minute presentations. 

  • Active Workshop. Gather a group of colleagues to do or make a thing! Tackle an experiment, teach a new skill, and model active learning techniques for your workshop participants. How will you actively engage your audience, inclusively, while promoting well-being—not just talking about it? How will you demonstrate these values through your workshop and invite participants to join you?

Proposal guidelines

The proposal form will ask you to submit:

  1. Name(s), email(s), institution(s), and position title(s) of proposed presenters.
  2. Session Title.
  3. Your preferred Session Format (see above for more information).
  4. Session Abstract of 75-100 words. This will appear on the conference website, so write it to your intended participant audience.
  5. A list of one to three Learning Goals for your session.

Session descriptions will be evaluated according to: 

  • Alignment with the themes of the conference
  • Feasibility of format and length for the proposed session type
  • Opportunities for educators across disciplines to talk to each other, take away new teaching tools, or launch new collaborations.
