Course Design Equity and Inclusion Rubric

This rubric developed in Bioengineering (BIOE) applies frameworks of inclusive and equitable course design to assess what's happening in a course and potential improvements

This Course Design Equity and Inclusion Rubric, developed by Melissa Ko (BIOE Science and Engineering Education Fellow, CTL Lecturer-Consultant), applies multiple frameworks of inclusive and equitable course design, such as culturally responsive teaching and universal design for learning, to identify what Bioengineering (BIOE) department courses are currently doing and what can be improved.

The BIOE curriculum equity review initiative aims to characterize the state of inclusivity and equity in course design across BIOE classes. Using this rubric, an internal review committee assesses collected course materials to offer actionable suggestions based on educational research literature.
